How to enjoy your candles & wax melts safely

A little glow, a beautiful fragrance and a moment to unwind. Our handmade creations are made to bring warmth to your home—please follow these simple tips to enjoy them safely.

Before you light

  1. Remove all packaging and any loose decorative materials.
  2. Trim the wick to approximately 5–6 mm before each burn.
  3. Place your candle upright on a stable, heat-resistant surface, using a suitable candle holder or dish.
  4. Keep away from curtains, furnishings, draughts and anything that could catch fire.
  5. Always keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

Your first burn

  1. For candles in jars or tins, allow enough time for the melted wax to reach the edges where possible. This helps your candle burn evenly and reduces tunnelling.
  2. Never burn for longer than four hours at a time, or the shorter time stated on your candle’s label—even if the wax has not reached the edges. Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
  3. Shaped candles, including flowers and pillars, melt differently and should always be burned on a suitable heat-resistant dish with enough room to catch melted wax.

Candle bouquets

  1. Our bouquets are lovely to display, but must never be lit while assembled.
  2. Before burning a candle flower, carefully remove it from the bouquet and remove all attached sticks, ribbons, wrapping and other decorations. Place it securely on a heat-resistant candle plate or dish, well away from the remaining bouquet.
  3. Only flowers with a wick should be lit. Flowers made as wax melts belong in a suitable wax melt burner.

Wax melts

  1. Use only a burner or electric warmer designed specifically for wax melts.
  2. Follow your burner’s instructions, including the recommended tealight size and heating time.
  3. If your wax melt is too large for your burner, carefully cut it into smaller pieces before use. Add only enough wax to sit comfortablynwithin the dish when fully melted - never overfill the dish or add water.
  4. Never light the wax melt itself.
  5. Heat for no longer than four hours at a time, or less if your burner’s instructions specify.
  6. Keep the burner on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from children, pets and flammable materials.
  7. Never leave it unattended. Extinguish the tealight or switch off the warmer before leaving the room.
  8. Allow the burner and wax to cool completely before moving or cleaning.

While enjoying your candle

  1. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep.
  2. Keep the melted wax free from matches, wick trimmings and other debris. Leave at least 10 cm between burning candles, and never touch or move a candle while it is lit or the wax is hot.
  3. If the flame becomes unusually high, flickers excessively or produces persistent smoke, extinguish the candle and allow it to cool before checking and trimming the wick.
  4. When it’s time to put it out
  5. Use a candle snuffer where possible, and check that the flame is fully extinguished. Never use water to put out a candle.
  6. Do not burn candles right down to the base. Follow the stopping point on your product’s label and allow everything to cool completely before handling.
